In its co-enzyme forms, vitamin B2 is known to assist with energy release from foods and in the formation of liver enzymes. Liver enzymes are involved in the detoxification of harmful substances in the body. Heavy drinkers, smokers, individuals on a high carbohydrate, fat or protein diet (e.g. body builders and athletes), pregnant and lactating women, women on the contraceptive pill or HRT, and the elderly may have an increased dietary requirement for vitamin B2. |
